On Saturday 9th February, Pen Green will be hosting a seminar on Understanding Childhood Development, the day will reflect on the development of young children and how they feel companionship from parents, other adults and children.
The confirmed speakers are Dr T. Berry Brazelton, Clinical Professor of Paediatrics, Emeritus Harvard Medical School and Dr Joshua Sparrow, Associate Clinical Professor, Harvard Medical School. Colwyn Trevarthen, Professor (Emeritus) of Child Psychology and psychobiology in the Department of Psychology, University of Edinburgh and Vasuvedi Reddy, Professor of Developmental and Cultural Psychology at the University of Portsmouth.
The day will reflect on how the youngest children develop and feel companionship from parents, practitioners and other children.
About the Speakers:
Dr T.Berry Brazelton’s focuses on the youngest children, his research has
included:
- The individual differences amongst newborn babies and their impact on the family.
- The attachments between parent and child in the first four months.
- Early intervention and at-risk infants.
- Early parenting practices across cultures.
Dr Joshua Sparrow is a child adolescent and general psychiatrist. His work has included consultation on child development and parenting. Dr Sparrow has worked with supporting children who have been subjected to emotional and physical abuse.
Professor Colwyn Trevarthen’s current research focuses on communication through rhythm and movement of babies. Trevarthen focuses on four key areas;
